2011          


  • GSK
    In 2011, Daiichi Sankyo and GSK announced a co-promotion agreement in Japan of Rotarix® (Rotavirus Vaccine, Live, Oral). GSK received approval from the MHLW to market Rotarix® in Japan on July 1 2011. Through this agreement, both companies aim to increase the awareness for the prevention of rotavirus gastroenteritis.
  • AstraZeneca
    In 2011, Daiichi Sankyo and AstraZeneca announced a co-promotion agreement in Japan for denosumab for the treatment of bone disorders stemming from bone metastasis upon receiving regulatory approval. Denosumab is the world’s first fully human monoclonal antibody to target RANK Ligand, an essential mediator of osteoclast formation. Daiichi Sankyo acquired denosumab rights in Japan in 2007 from Amgen.
  • Plexxikon
    In 2011, Daiichi Sankyo announced the acquisition of Plexxikon, a privately held pharmaceutical company based in Berkeley, California. Plexxikon’s main therapeutic research areas include oncology, CNS disorders as well as auto-immune, neuro-inflammatory and cardio-renal diseases. This acquisition accelerates Daiichi Sankyo’s entry into the oncology market by strengthening our pipeline. Along with the acquisition, Daiichi Sankyo obtains certain co-promotion rights in the United States for ZELBORAF® (vemurafenib, PLX4032), which is being jointly developed by Plexxikon and Roche.
2010
  • AstraZeneca
    In 2010, Daiichi Sankyo and AstraZeneca announced a co-promotion agreement for NEXIUM® Capsule (esomeprazole magnesium), Proton Pump Inhibitor in Japan. Through this partnership, AstraZeneca and Daiichi Sankyo will co-promote this product after it is approved for use in Japan. AstraZeneca will manufacture and develop the product and Daiichi Sankyo will be responsible for its sales and distribution.
2008
  • ArQule
    In 2008, Daiichi Sankyo and ArQule, a biotechnology company based in Woburn, Massachusetts, announced two strategic R&D partnerships to progress the development and discovery of novel oncology therapeutics. Through the first partnership, ArQule and Daiichi Sankyo will co-develop tivantinib (ARQ 197), a proprietary, orally administered, small molecule inhibitor of the c-Met receptor tyrosine kinase, under investigation for the treatment of certain cancers. In addition, ArQule and Daiichi Sankyo will advance the application of ArQule's kinase inhibitor discovery platform (AKIPTM) to develop a new generation of highly selective, anti-cancer kinase inhibitors intended to ensure a long-term presence in this therapeutic category.
  • Ranbaxy
    In 2008, Daiichi Sankyo announced the acquisition of a majority interest in Ranbaxy, one of the top 10 generic companies in the world and India’s largest pharmaceutical company. This acquisition creates a complimentary business model that provides sustainable growth by diversification that spans the full spectrum of the pharmaceutical business. This acquisition gives Daiichi Sankyo an expanded global reach that enables leading market positions in both mature and emerging markets with proprietary and non-proprietary products.
  • U3 Pharma
    In 2008, Daiichi Sankyo announced the acquisition of U3 Pharma, a biotechnology company based in Martinsried, Germany. U3 Pharma's pipeline of novel targeted therapeutics includes programs focusing on fully-human antibodies as potential therapies for breast, lung and colorectal cancers, among others. The company's lead product, which is being co-developed with Amgen, is U3-1287 (AMG 888), the first fully-human anti-HER3 monoclonal antibody (mAb), to inhibit oncogenic signaling and tumor proliferation.
2007
  • Amgen
    In 2007, Daiichi Sankyo and Amgen, a biotechnology company based in Thousand Oaks, California, announced a broad collaboration on the development and commercialization in Japan of denosumab, for a broad range of bone loss conditions including osteoporosis and bone metastases. Through this partnership, Amgen will receive exclusive worldwide rights to certain Daiichi Sankyo intellectual property to the extent applicable to denosumab. Amgen will also grant Daiichi Sankyo exclusive rights to develop and commercialize denosumab in Japan in post-menopausal osteoporosis and oncology with the potential for additional indications.
